Detailed Description

International Geomagnetic Reference Field version 13.

The data from the years 2000-2020 inclusive is available below

The IGRF model provides model data for \(g\) and \(h\) in the spherical harmonics

\[ V(r, \theta, \phi, t) = a \sum_{n=1}^N\sum_{m=0}^n\left(\frac{a}{r}\right)^{n+1}\left[g_n^m\left(t\right)\cos\left(m\phi\right) + h_n^m\left(t\right)\sin\left(m\phi\right)\right] P_n^m\left(\cos\theta\right), \]

where \(r\) is the radius, \(\theta\) is the colatitude, \(\phi\) is the longitude, \(t\) is the time, \(a\) is the reference radius at 6371.2 km, and \(P_n^m\left(\cos\theta\right)\) are the Schmidth normalized Legendre polynominal.

The magnetic field itself is computed from the gradients of \( V(r, \theta, \phi, t) \)

◆ compute()

MagneticField IGRF::compute ( const Tensor3 z_field,
const Vector lat_grid,
const Vector lon_grid,
const Time time,
const Vector ell 
)

Computes the magnetic field based on IGRF13 coefficients.

Only 2000-2020 is implemented. Any time before uses pure 2000 data, and any time after uses pure 2020 data.

WARNING: No conversion of ENU to geodetic equivalents are performed Instead the assumption is that the spherical ENU is good enough.
